Photos that circulated on social media show what happened when a kiteboarder examined his damaged surfboard after an encounter with what he initially thought to be a turtle at Flat Rock beach in Ballina, New South Wales. Police used Facebook to track down the surfer and were able to obtain the shark tooth so it could be examined by the Department of Primary Industries, which confirmed the tooth came from a great white shark.
